HelpMePray knows that The Power of Prayer has been recognized and practiced by billions of people for thousands of years. Through prayer, people have been seeking the guidance of a higher power for many reasons: World Peace, Health, Happiness, Wealth, Power, Success, Forgiveness, the Continuation of their Soul, etc.

People pray for themselves, for their loved ones, and also, for those they do not know directly. This latter form of prayer is called “Intercessory Prayer” and a growing number of world-wide studies continues to support the fact that Intercessory Prayer may provide strength, a feeling of well being, gratitude and appreciation in the hearts of those being prayed for, even if they are unaware of their praying partners at HelpMePray.

A recent article in a leading magazine cited several compelling studies of the power of praying for others:

In 1988 Dr. Randolph Byrd, a cardiologist at San Francisco General Hospital, randomly assigned almost 400 patients in the coronary-care unit to either a group that received daily prayers or a group that did not. At discharge, those who had been prayed for were much less likely to need antibiotics or develop complications.

In 1998 Dr. Elisabeth Targ, a psychiatrist at the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine, recruited experienced distant healers who used prayer and other techniques on patients with advanced AIDS for at least one hour a day. In the first part of the study, which was published in the Western Journal of Medicine, 40 percent of those not prayed for died, while none of the patients who received the distant healing died. Targ doubled the number of patients and started over- again, the patients who received prayer fared much better in terms of AIDS-related illnesses.

- Canadian Living, April 2002

In addition, the September 2001 issue of the Journal of Reproductive Health published a study from Columbia University in New York that examined 199 women at an in vitro fertilization clinic in Korea. Organizations in the United States, Canada and Australia prayed for a random group representing half of the women. The study showed that women who were prayed for were twice as successful in conceiving. Perhaps just as interesting, this outcome also suggests that the power of prayer transcends not only geographical borders, but cultural and religious lines as well.
